Unlike tungsten and molybdenum, which are also high-melting-point metals, tantalum is manufactured by melting, just like most metals. Therefore, processing considerations are largely the same as for most metals.

However, because work hardening occurs, processing heat and stress must be minimized. Also, using dull tools can cause extreme tearing of the processed surface, so tool sharpness must be considered.

Tantalum possesses excellent properties such as heat resistance, oxidation resistance, and chemical resistance, but its high cost means that orders are currently mostly for small parts.
