Thermal expansion: It is the rate of material expansion in response to a change of temperature.
Thermal expansion coefficient is measured by the expansion occurred when the temperature is increased by 1ºC. The bigger the coefficient, the easier the material expands.
Ceramics such as Boron Nitride, Silicon Nitride, Silicon Carbide and Aluminum Nitride are low thermal expansion materials. On the other hand quartz glass has better low expansion property against changing the tenprature. Compared to other metals, Tungsten, Molybdenum, Tantalum and Niobium have lower thermal expansion coefficient, which means there is little change in shape in response to temperature variation. Therefore, these materials are suitable for components of semiconductor processing equipment, LCD manufacturing equipment as well as jigs used in high temperature environment.

Quartz Glass
One of the most outstanding properties of quartz glass is its low thermal expansion coefficient 5.5×10−7/°C (20-320 °C). We have been supplying components made of quartz glass for analysis equipment and measuring equipment because of its stably low thermal expansion coefficient in a wide range of temprature. Sometimes quartz glass is replaced from general metals because of not only low thermal expansion but also its strong heat and thermal shock resistant properties.
Boron Nitride
Boron nitride has a lot of excellent properties such as high thermal conductivity, good thermal expansion and high insulation property, but its most attractive property is remarkably low thermal expansion. The BN’s thermal expansion coefficient is the lowest among the engineering ceramics.
